The Charles Bukowski Tapes are a collection of short interviews with the American writer/poet Charles Bukowski, filmed and assembled by Barbet Schroeder and first published in 1985. Today, the video documentary is considered a cult classic. The Charles Bukowski Tapes are a collection of 50 improvised monologues with the American writer/poet Charles Bukowski, filmed and assembled by Barbet Schroeder and first published in 1987 in the USA. In total more than four hours long, the tapes consist of 52 short interviews with Bukowski discussing a variety of subjects. Inveterate filmmaker Schroeder couldn't resist filming these sessions, and they form the basis of his documentary The Charles Bukowski Tapes. For the final product (which totals four hours), Schroeder opted to cut the material up into fragments of a few minutes per take, to best capture Bukowski's wit.
